Super cute, and also really easy to read. <br /><br />Idea for the feather balls: could you try brushing modpodge over the ball, then setting a feather on it and brushing more modpodge over it - going one by one in a row around the ball? That way the feathers will be completely smoothed down over the ball, like in the photo.
